The 3 differentiated example texts contain conversations between the narrator and friends and their teacher, Mrs Khan based on Chapter 7 of the book. Differentiated feature find worksheets with answers are included for easy marking and instant feedback. Resources are differentiated three ways. Pupils must match up the two parts of sentences from the text that have been cut in two. Five sentence matching activities are provided, one for each chapter of The Iron Man novel by Ted Hughes. After reading each chapter of the novel, in pairs, pupils match up the beginning of the sentence with the correct ending, reading them aloud to check that they sound complete. Benefits for this activity: • Encourages pupils to discuss how they know which parts to put together • Leads to pupils to spot patterns in sentence structure • Gives the opportunity for pupils to re-read sentences many times over • Helps pupils attune their ears to the sound of a sentence • Helps children recall the events of the story • Provides the opportunity for children to pay close attention to the grammar of sentences including tense • Helps pupils recognise sentences in their own writing in order to demarcate them using the correct punctuation All resources come as easily editable Word documents and as PDFs. A pack of twelve non-chronological report resources, including vocabulary, features, planning and writing sheets and activities, themed around humpback whales. The following resources are included: Humpback Whales Vocabulary Vocabulary about humpback whales. This resource can be used in two ways to familiarise pupils with the subject specific vocabulary: 1) cut out and match the words, definitions and images; 2) use as a word mat during the planning and writing process. Humpback Whales Vocabulary Wall Display Display the key words and matching images around the classroom with this resource. Identify Features: Tense and Sentence Types Pupils identify different sentence types and tenses from an example introduction and Did you know? section from a non-chronological report about giant pandas. With answers. Humpback Whales Matching Sentences Match the beginning and ends of sentences about whales. This activity makes pupils familiar with the sentence structure of a non-chronological report and facts associated with whales. They then order the sentences, identify the relative clauses and finally write about humpback whales. With answers. Re-Order Sentences Elephants Organise the sentences about elephants into the appropriate section. Then order the sentences to make a paragraph. With answers. Humpback Whales Organising Information Into Paragraphs Three paragraphing activities: firstly, identify which section each fact about whales belongs in; secondly, write a paragraph using the facts provided; lastly, draw a diagram using information provided. Six worksheets aimed at learning about the correct punctuation of singular and plural possessive nouns. The worksheets cover a variety of difficulty levels and are all accompanied by answer sheets. Pupils must look carefully at the sentences to check if the semi-colons have been put in the correct place for a variety of sentences.
